The dream for which there is no waking

Corw took a slip of water and looked up, it around noon. He was walking down a long stretch of paved road. Presumebly for intercity travel. It had been 3 days since he left that warehouse and had enough supplies to carry him one week without gathering more. He had seen plenty of wildlife, indicating that whatever removed humanity was selective to humanity iitself. Why Crow was spared he did not know.

Corw continued down the rode and encountered three large man blocking his way. One hold a large pipe either iron or lead, maybe an alloy. Another held a steel chain and the final one had what looked like a steel device. "Hey there Larry, looky 'ere." one said. "Looks like we have another look to pay the toll." It was the one with the chain tell the one of the steel device. "Appears so, look, I don't want you to misunderstand. Before the world went to hell, I was a buisnessman of modest respect. I don't want to harm you but you can't just pass through our territory without some tribute, no?" the Leader, called Larry apperently gave his consealed ultimatum. "If you wanted my supplies-" Crow began walking toward Larry. "-You should've ambushed me." Crow drew knife and slashed across Larry's right wrist and LArry dopped the steel device. It hit the ground and a loud sound went off and something pierced through Crow's left shoulder. Corw flinched momentarily from the pain but fell right back into beat.

Crow killed the three men with the wound to his shoulder being the only stike against him. He picked up the device and saw that was controlled by a spring mechinism with the user sqeezing the trigger on the handle. Corw attempted to use it but it only nothen happened. It must not have any ammunition left. Crow however picked up the chain and pipe and contiued on.
